I maintain Spotcast, a Home Assistant integration to start and transfer Spotify playback on Chromecast and Spotify Connect devices. After contributing rate-limiting and resilience improvements to the original project, I took over with a maintained fork when its author discontinued it, citing Spotify’s growing hostility toward third-party developers.

The fork is distributed through HACS as “Spotcast (maintained)” and keeps the integration working with the current Home Assistant and Spotify APIs. It also adds new features such as Chromecast speaker group support, library management services, a paste-URL desktop authorization option and hardened authentication. Third-party guides now point their users to this fork to get Spotcast working again.
